Taverna del Capitano
|
| We are in the Sorrento peninsula, in a peaceful town of the northern coast. Once a fishermen house it was transformed in a restaurant, with a few rooms for those guests who may wish to extend their stay. Crisp breezes and enchanting sea. If we blend all this with Grazia Casa's great passion for good cuisine, and Salvatore Caputo's resourcefulness, the result is a restaurant that shines for its innovative spirit among traditional basic ingredients. |

The Taverna restaurant is another example of a "family" success: a warm welcome in the dining room is given directly by patron Salvatore (the Taverna's "Capitano"), while in the kitchen Grazia is assisted by her son Alfonso and his wife Stephanie (dessert specialist), and the cellar is left in the experienced hands of Mariella, the sommelier. The dining room, furnished with great simplicity, is pervaded by a light laziness inviting all to let their emotions sway in front of the dishes: meticulousness and precision throughout which, seeing the circumstances, is hardly surprising. During the summer months you may also eat outside, on a terrace overlooking the entire coast: everything in here seems to be calming and you feel satisfied. The cellar is looked after with the utmost care, giving due attention to local wines, but also to grand French chateaux. Service is prompt and friendly. Even the bill won't make you regret the visit (around 50 euro, wine excluded) for a good quality/price ratio. |

From petit hors d'oeuvres to final pastries, from first to second course dishes with meat and fish to desserts, the execution is of the highest quality. Some pasta dishes, a great passion of the "Capitano", are just superlative: Spaghetti alla Nerano, with zucchini and basil; handmade Vermicelli with shellfish, small tomatoes and parsley; white and black Tagliolini with a sauce of scorpion fish and early broad beans. Among fish second courses you can taste red shrimps fished on the rocks, salt and pepper, on a nest of artichokes and potatoes; San Pietro roulades with zucchini julienne or with Serino chestnuts and local bacon. Desserts are truly extraordinary. |
