Ristorante San Domenico

It was the year 1970 when Gianluigi Morini opened Ristorante San Domenico in Imola, introducing for the first time in Italian restaurants the idea of "homemade cuisine", which had been up to then an exclusive prerogative of just a few great Italian families, where a professional chef was responsible for the kitchens; this had fascinated him throughout all his research and readings.

THE RESTAURANT
Transferring such an idea to a restaurant wasn't so easy, and Morini, upon Luigi Veronelli's suggestion, contacted the most important House-chef of his time, Nino Bergese, "the king's chef". With Morini, Bergese organized the staff for his kitchen hiring the very young Valentino Marcattilli as assistant. The two worked side by side for over seven years. During this period, Valentino perfected his skills through many apprenticeships in France's most important restaurants. When Bergese passed away in 1977, Valentino took on the direction of Ristorante San Domenico's kitchen, starting a brilliant career whereby his art became known throughout the world. Ristorante San Domenico rises in an area that was anciently occupied by a Roman domus, which extended into the area occupied by the Saint Dominic complex today. The building is harmonious within the urban context originally designed by Leonardo da Vinci in 1501, the plant still preserved in Windsor Castle today. Outside, it shows a simple yet refined facade that has been re-painted and restructured in the colours of terracotta. In the beautiful garden's background the cloister of Saint Dominic.
THE OFFER
The restaurant offers various savouring menus to guide customers through a great choice of dishes, allowing them to taste Marcattilli's highest cuisine.

You can start with a briquette of fois gras with Porto wine jelly, apple flat cake, wine must and toasted brioche (croissants). Then you might continue with Spaghetti alla chitarra with shell-fish and wild bladder campions followed by scorpion fish fillet with spiced red wine. A marvellous apple pie serves as dessert. You must absolutely try the coffee, also to accompany the small pastries, always the greatest pride of this true temple of taste.
