Bologna's old wine bars and trendy venues

The Bolognese passion for fine food and wine continues to grow. It is possible to find restaurants with creative cuisine in town along with many old wine bars where it is possible to try typical dishes as well as snacks.

RISTORANTE BATTIBECCO

Here a selection of dishes can be savoured by candle light: barley soup or a selection of cheeses accompanied with honey and cheeses in a simple and welcoming setting.
Specialities: rigatoni pasta al torchio with corn cobs, babą with mascarpone and pear custard.
Wine cellar: displayed on the shelves and ceiling, the excellent wines are recommended and served with love by Maurizio Landi and Franco Tumedei (owner of Enoteca Tumedei, one of the best-stocked in town). These wines become the protagonists during the sumptuous food and wine tastings that this venue holds throughout the year.

BRAVO CAFFČ

An original venue in the centre of Bologna. The homemade desserts that change each day are also excellent.

LA PERNICE E LA GALLINA

This venue can be considered a playful cult culinary venue that can surprise as well as entertain diners. All thanks to 34 year-old Marco Fadiga, who instead of following in the footsteps of his judge father became a chef de rang in Toulouse (he is one of the Jeunes Restaurateurs d'Europe), and earned his stripes at Gualtiero Marchesi's in Erbusco (Bs), in Franciacorta. Here he gleaned the secrets of the great Catalan master Ferran Adrią, Chef of El Bouli di Rosas, near Barcelona, and each day turns out different culinary delights.
Specialities: martini-gelatine with sushi-non sushi, an unmissable fish appetiser inspired by gastro-fusion, oriental pigeon with couscous of pine nuts and raisins, whilst desserts include a rum custard ice-cream with a Havana cigar infusion.
Wine cellar: classic wine list with a few prestigious labels.

The menu features "thematic food tours", genuine culinary itineraries that are to be taken in throughout the course of the evening.
Specialities: meat and vegetables cooked on earthenware and the "via della piada", a thematic itinerary on the region of Emilia Romagna.
