Turin's Salone del Gusto

From 21 to 25 October, the appointment with the Salone del Gusto (Taste Fair) returns to its home in Turin's Lingotto: Slow Food, in collaboration with the Region of Piedmont is organising what has become a cornerstone showcase on the world of food and wine, both in Italy and abroad.

TURIN, FLAVOUR CAPITAL
Five days to delight the senses in the ancient Savoy capital. Riding the wave of success obtained in previous editions, Turin once again hosts one of the world's most important food and wine fairs. An even wider range of appointments and events will provide a backdrop to the exhibitors' stands from around Italy and abroad, offering visitors the possibility to acquaint themselves with all that involves food including products, traditions and recipes. The fair starts out with a section on Italian products called Mercato del Buon Paese, in turn subdivided into areas featuring confectionery, cereals, fruit, meat and fish which tell the story of Italian food.
The 190 Slow Food areas, which aim to rediscover and valorise typical products which risk disappearing, are of particular interest. The theme of regional cuisine is dedicated a section of the Fair entitled Regioni alla Ribalta (Regions in the Spotlight) which provides the possibility to take a trip through Italy's gastronomic traditions. But one can go even further: Cucine del Mondo (World Cuisine) has been devised to try out dishes one doesn't even suspect exist. Five thousand square metres will then be dedicated to Mercato del Mondo (World Market) with incursions into typical Spanish ham (jamón serrano), Japanese saké, cheeses from the south of France and Irish chocolate.
A further two large spaces will be given over to the art of drinking: Piazza della Birra and L'enoteca, where one can choose between thousands of labels accompanied by tasty snacks. The planned events aim to satisfy every requirement: from the Taste Laboratories, real lessons in "taste bud education", to Teatro del Gusto, where it will be possible to watch great chefs performing live as they prepare the culinary works of art that have made them famous.Chefs and restaurants will also be featuring in Appuntamenti a Tavola: 50 dinners prepared by 30 Piedmont venues which will be showing off their best creations, created ad hoc. The contexts will be fitting for the occasion and will feature the involvement of castles, palazzos and historical wine cellars, lending their extraordinary grandeur to the event.
