THE 38TH EDITION OF THE INTERNATIONAL WINE FAIR |
|
 |
The "appetiser" will be provided by the international oenological competition, which is held one week before Vinitaly - namely from 24 to 28 March - and awards gold, silver and bronze medals to the best labels present. Then - from 1 to 5 April- the real fair will open. This not only provides an overview of the best in Italian oenology: operators and visitors will also be able to get better acquainted with the best international products, with particular attention dedicated to wine but also reaching into the world of distillates.
Novelties this year, in addition to a number of improvements to the outfitting of the fair- with the complete air conditioning of the pavilions and covered walkways between these and the car park- also include initiatives at the launch. First of these is "Taste and Dream", exclusive tastings in groups of maximum twenty-five participants of a number of excellent Italian wines produced by carefully selected wineries. The shortlist of these labels includes Barbera di Braida di Rocchetta Tanaro, Amarone di Speri di Pedemonte, Brunello di Montalcino di Jacopo Biondi Santi, Rubesco di Lungarotti di Torgiano and Marsala del Duca di Salaparuta.
There will also be an entire pavilion dedicated to tomorrow's big names, namely the best emerging Italian houses. A hundred-odd names chosen from amongst producers from all the peninsula's regions which will be introduced to connoisseurs through tasting sessions and seminars lead by Luca Maroni, journalist and famed oenologist. More novelties are in store in the "Ristoranti d'autore" space, with the stands of the greatest chefs from five selected regions: Piero Bertinotti from the Pinocchio restaurant in Borgomanero for the Piemonte region, Moreno Cedroni of La Madonnina del pescatore di Senigallia for the Marche region, Gaetano Trovato from Arnolfo in Colle Val d'Elsa for Tuscany, Luca Brasi of La Lucanda of Osio Sotto for Lombardy and Paolo Masieri from the restaurant Paolo e Barbara of Sanremo for Liguria. The aces will be displaying their talents and their dishes will be judged by authoritative wine and gastronomy critics.
Finally, after its success at the 2003 edition, the Vinitaly space in the city centre returns to the splendid Seventeenth century Gran Guardia palazzo in piazza Bra, in the heart of Verona. Each day from 16.00 to 22.00, the public will have the Vinitaly Enoteca at its disposal, with a wine list featuring many high category wines as well as the Wine Bar with guided tastings and talk shows with guests from the world of show business and fashion. Also at the Gran Guardia, the aperitif session "Happy Wine, Happy Food" is not to be missed, with its thematic tastings for learning how to combine typical Italian products- from pasta to cheese, from cured meats to fruit- with the most suitable home-grown labels. |
