At the giant Cheese Market, located in Piazzas XX Settembre and Carlo Alberto, the Mercato dei Presidi on via Marconi and the Isola dei Pastori on via dei Principi di Piemonte, people will be able to purchase every shape and description, size and age of cheese imaginable during the fair: soft, kneaded-paste and pressed cheeses; cheeses presented by consortia, institutions and even individual shepherds who have come down from their summer alpine meadows specially for the event, not to mention the groups of producers united in the Slow Food Stands, organized according to protected area. In addition to all the cheeses being featured, it will also be possible to purchase a variety of other dairy products: ice-cream, milkshakes, yogurt, cream and chocolate milk.
The gaily decorated kiosks of this truly unique gastronomic event, situated along Corso Garibaldi, in the Courtyard of Via Vittorio Emanuele and the Giardini Di Piazza Roma, will afford ample opportunity for sampling and dining on the cheeses offered by the over sixty participating Piedmontese restaurants, as well as various regional dishes, all accompanied by DOC wines (Denominazione d'Origine Controllata / Quality wines produced in a specific region) from the event's own wine bar set up especially for the occasion.
Classes will be offered to interested parties teaching the cheese-making processes involved in the creation of Italian DOP cheeses and a guided tour (called the "Milky Way") will explore the entire range of dairy products. The fair program also features conferences on agricultural and food related topics with a special focus on the world of cheese and including valuable contributions on the part of various experts in the field and journalists. There will also be a presentation of the book, "Le forme del latte: manuale di degustazione del formaggio" (The forms of milk: a cheese tasting manual).
