Barilla and "I Primi d'Italia" - Foligno, Umbria, 24-28 September 2003

Barilla, a leader for over a century in the Italian food sector, is once again sponsoring the traditional "I Primi d'Italia" Festival held in the town of Foligno in Umbria from 24 to 28 September, 2003.


THE FESTIVAL
This Festival represents a celebration of first-course dishes, highlighting the fundamental role they play in the Italian culinary culture. Along with the first-course dishes, first-rate examples of achievements in other areas of Italian endeavor will also be honored: leading figures from the worlds of cinema, politics, journalism, culture, television and environmental protection who have distinguished themselves in their respective professional disciplines. Their talent and professionalism will be acknowledged at Foligno at the "I Primi d'Italia" awards.
BARILLA AND THE CINEMA
Along with the unflagging commitment to quality, tradition and research into flavor and nutrition, Barilla has long had a deep interest in innovative cutting-edge cinema. This passion is amply demonstrated by the Emilian group's advertising and PR, which has involved significant contributions by such great names from the world of international cinema as Wim Wenders, Federico Fellini, Giuseppe Tornatore, Gerard Depardieu, Ennio Morricone, Vittorio Storaro and Ridley Scott.

By way of confirming this special relationship with the world of cinema, on the occasion of the fifth edition of the Foligno Festival, Barilla will be presenting its important lifetime achievement award to actress Barbara De Rossi. This award is intended to honor the actress's interpretive talent and intense, impassioned portrayal of characters, always marked by a natural and extraordinary eclecticism.

The awards ceremony will take place on Thursday 25 September at 22:00 during the course of the "Spaghetto di mezzanotte" (Midnight Spaghetti Supper) event, scheduled to be held in the Auditorium and Cloister of San Domenico; a highlight of the evening will be musical performances by Jerry Calą, another will be the pleasure of enjoying a selection of Barilla first-course dishes.
THEME-BASED EVENTS
The Festival program includes a series of theme-based gastronomic events, "I primi incontri con lo chef" (first encounters with the chef): a daily event taking place at 18:00 in Piazza della Repubblica, featuring seminars conducted by chef Andrea Fanzaghi, from Barilla.

Entirely devoted to the pleasures of pasta, the Ammanniti tavern space will literally be transformed into a "Barilla Village", where people will have an opportunity to sample various pasta dishes every day from 16:00 to 23:00.
